Description
This is a vintage 1943 US Army Air Force airspeed indicator made by Longines Wittnauer Watch Company. The glass is clean and scratch-free.
The rear has duct tape residue that can be scraped away with a finger nail.
I have removed some of the residue myself.
The info tag has some kind of coating on it.
You can read the letters through it.
I did not try to remove it with any chemicals.
The gauge appears to function.
When a finger is pressed tightly on the center hole creating higher pressure the indicator needle moves.
Some historical info on the indicator:
The Army Type F-1 Airspeed Indicator was used across a number of US Army Air Corps aircraft during WWII, including heavy bombers B-17, B-24, B-29, medium bombers B-25 and B-26, as well as light bomber A-20.
It was also used in versions of US Army Air Force WWII fighters P-38, P-39, P-40, P-47, and P-51.
According to the spec sheet, the
Army type F-1 is a sensitive airspeed indicator. The pointer makes one revolution every hundred miles per hour. A smaller inner dial indicates hundreds of miles per hour. .
